MAGAZINE LAUNCHES ILLUSTRATION CONTEST FOR THEIR DEBUT ISSUE 

PENNSYLVANIA (May 29, 2008)  –   The new Catholic E-Zine for children, My Light Magazine, is holding an illustration contest. The winner’s artwork will become the cover of My Light’s debut issue in August 2008. My Light is a free online Catholic magazine for children. “The mission is to help children better understand their faith and grow closer to God,” Editor Jennifer Gladen said. The magazine includes stories, articles, crafts, Bible stories and poems.Ms. Gladen is excited about the upcoming contest. “This is a great opportunity. Illustrating for the cover of a debut issue is an impressive addition to the resume’.” Deadline is July 1, 2008. Entries not chosen for August will receive first consideration for future issues. We have two polls running on the My Light Yahoo group and the ideas look like they’re going to be a success.

Our first poll: What do you think about adding a feature to each issue of My Light where we highlight one of our contributors in article form,  is resulting in a 75% vote in favor of the idea. 

Our second: As an illustrator, a Contest for the Cover of the debut issue of My Light Magazine would be something worth doing…or a complete waste of time. 100% so far voted in favor of the contest.

Thanks for all your input. There’s still a day or two left of voting, but it looks like I have some work to do.

Early this month From May 2 through the 9th I participated in the Catholic Writer’s Conference sponsored by the Catholic Writer’s Guild.It was an informative event that had a Catholic twist. We discussed topics  about incorporating our faith in our work among the many other writing tips. 

If you’re a Catholic author, check out the website. I’ve found some useful tips. They have a free membership and a paid membership. Even with the free membership, they let you post in some forums. And keep an eye out for next year’s conference!
